A sophisticated online calculator and advice system that instantly processes millions of records of SAP data to provide independent sustainable refurbishment advice to users. The resource includes a ‘market-place’ with integrated Google mapping to provide the option of identifying and linking directly to the suppliers, manufacturers, and installers of any refurbishment measures chosen.

Developed on behalf of a consortium of the UK’s leading energy conservation and housing charities, housing associations, architects and buildings performance specialists including BRE, Association for the Conservation of Energy, Price & Myers and the National Energy Foundation, together with English Heritage and the Housing Corporation and supported by the Technology Strategy Board (formerly DTI) .

Developed in partnership with Cyril Sweet on behalf of WRAP (Waste & Resources Action Programme) the toolkit replaces the successful Recycled Content Toolkit developed by Solstice in 2005.

Cut Your Carbon

A carbon foot-printing resource developed to support community engagement and action. The resource includes comprehensive information and content management facilities, an extranet for community support officers and a suite of community resources including social media and communication, and a sophisticated carbon calculator that is integrated with the AMEE calculation engine for domestic footprints and also handles emissions from businesses and civic amenities.

Developed on behalf of the East of England Development Agency (EEDA) the resource now supports communities across the East of England.

Since our appointment as webmaster in 2006, Solstice has redeveloped the online resource, creating a solution that allows multi-disciplinary, multi-national teams to manage data, documentation and information under the various ongoing tasks and activities. The solution provides secure data management along with comprehensive contact management and content management which allow the various teams to efficiently manage communication and publication of outputs, news and research.

A nationwide carbon pledging system allowing user to register their commitment to undertake carbon saving actions. Developed on behalf of E.ON as part of their Carbon Neutral FA Cup initiative 2008, the solution integrated with their wider websites, exchanging data and offering a seamless user journey via secure web services.

Market Transformation Programme

The system incorporated an extensive online resource and information portal, supported and integrated with a comprehensive secure intranet based administration system with full auditing, data tracking and content management including integral publication approval mechanism as required by DEFRA.

This resource was developed for Future Energy Solutions on behalf of the Department of the Environment, Farming and Rural Affairs as a central asset to the Market Transformation Programme, a major government sponsored national initiative.

DFES Energy & Water
DFES Energy & Water

An energy and water data collection tool designed and developed by Solstice on behalf of DfES, Its primary use is to collect energy and water data from schools for government benchmarking and to help inform energy efficiency initiatives.

LEAs can either submit school data online using the simple input screens, or they can save and download their progress as a spreadsheet. The user can complete the spreadsheet offline before uploading it again to fully complete their data submission.


Sustainable Learning
Sustainable Learning

The Sustainable Learning website is a feature rich yet simple and engaging website aimed at schools in the UK to access information and support them to take better control over their energy and water use.

A comprehensive back-end administration system allows site administrators to directly control site content and layout, and provides a simple wizard style interface for the creation and publication of interactive questionnaires.

The site also provides an online community where schools, local education authorities and any nominated intermediaries can discuss ideas. Supporting documentation can be easily uploaded by the site administrator and is then automatically made available to users as they progress through the scheme. The resource includes certification modules and is now in use in both England and Northern Ireland.

Developed for BRE, the system is now hosted and maintained by Solstice.


Schools Benchmarking
A comprehensive energy monitoring, benchmarking and advice online resource for use by Schools, complete with flexible interfacing to promote use by both building operators and staff in an educational context.

Satisfaction of Service KPI Resource
Based on the "Customer Satisfaction of Service Key Performance Indicators (SoSKPIs)", developed by the top 14 "intelligent" construction customers, including BAA, MoD, BT, and Transco the tool converts a survey questionnaire into a management tool. This tool aims to improve customer relationships and ensuring projects are customer focused throughout the delivery process.

Whole Life Performance Tool

Developed on behalf of Cyril Sweett, the WLP to is a sophisticated response to the need for centralised data and world wide access requirements versus the established and efficient working practices of an established team. The specification was developed through an in depth study of these needs, requirements and working practices made possible by the close working relationship between Solstice and Cyril Sweett.

A rich client interface provides advanced functionality and an interactive user experience without compromising the need for worldwide access by international teams and efficient centralised data processing and storage. The rich-client interface offers significant flexible grid based functionality to mirror Excel based data manipulation and this has proven pivotal in its adoption into standard working practices by the team.


FM Data Benchmarking System
Developed on behalf of Cyril Sweett, the FM benchmarking database has been designed to compliment the WLP system above, utilising similar rich-client interfacing and providing benchmarking and comparative reporting for services and utility costs.

Recycled Content Toolkit
Recycled Content Toolkit

Solstice were responsible for developing a sophisticated online tool for use within the construction sector on behalf of WRAP

An online toolkit created to allow construction professionals to determine the percentage of recycled content in a new building or major refurbishment project. The toolkit allows construction projects to be defined from components up and helps to identify the largest opportunities to increase the overall use of recycled material in the building. The tool kit allows projects to be grouped into schemes, supporting housing, commercial new build, infrastructure and demolitions and provides aggregating reporting at scheme and portfolio level.

The tool was launched in Building Magazine on 1st February 2006 and subsequently expanded and further developed to form the core of the Net Waste toolkit launched in 2008.


WRAP - Data Controller
A rich-client application that allows WRAP administrators and contracted practitioners to securely connect to the Net Waste Toolkit central reference database via dedicated web-service connections. The tool provides comprehensive data management functionality through a flexible interface.

RED/GREEN Calculator
RED/GREEN Calculator

The Minister for Climate Change, Biodiversity and Waste hosted a high-level summit with UK retailers, the British Retail Consortium and energy suppliers in November 2007 to discuss the Government’s ambition to improve the efficiency performance of consumer electronics, to phase out the least efficient products and to promote energy efficient choices to consumers. To facilitate the delivery of these standards, the Market Transformation Programme has produced the Red/Green Calculator Tool. The Red/Green Calculator enables retailers to test, easily, if individual products or a basket of goods would meet current or future Government efficiency targets.

Under contract from AEAT, Solstice designed and developed the Red / green calculator for this DEFRA initiative. The resource was designed to utilise existing spreadsheets as the backbone of data collection, management and reporting for both retailers and manufacturers, with each user receiving a unique homepage from where spreadsheet proformas and data can be managed, uploaded, downloaded and passed for reporting and analysis by DEFRA. The resource is now hosted and maintained by Solstice.

The East of England Climate Change Partnership brings together stakeholders to work on adapting the region to its future climate and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The resource comprises a public information portal and an extensive administration system to manage contacts, content and communication between stakeholders.

Competency Profile

Developed for ITAP international, competency profiler is a powerful corporate level tool for managing staff resources, defining job profiles and matching them to staff skills.

The system allows administrative users to define their own competency survey model in terms of guidance text, scoring models and format and provides an extensive suite of analysis and reporting modules.

The system is hosted and maintained on Solstice servers.

Developed for ITAP international the CWQ system compliments the profiler system above by empowering managers to understand and analyse the dynamics of national and international teams. The CWQ includes a dynamic interface and data structure that offers full multi-language flexibility to ensure that the questionnaires can be served routinely across multi-national teams in a range of languages.

Failte Ireland Energy Benchmarking for Hotels

Developed on behalf of the tourist board for the isle of Ireland (Failte) this system provides a comprehensive resource for the hospitality sector to track their energy use overtime, receive benchmarking reports and tailored guidance ,and maintain an ongoing manifest of their energy using equipment, plant and controls.

The system is driven by an automated email system that prompts users to enter their energy consumption data. The system is synchronised with billing cycles and includes smart links for ease of use.

A dynamic online resource comprised of a vibrant public website tailored to reflect corporate identity and market, supported by an efficient administration system allowing Talk Paper Staff to manage content including product updates, contacts, users and promotional communication. This bespoke solution was designed and created by Solstice and is now hosted and supported by our team.

The Spatial Metro Programme aims to provide a way of making cities and their component elements legible and navigable for visitors and local people.

Solstice developed the supporting website which provides information to the public, created and submitted by project partners via the online administration system.

Solstice were responsible for the concept design, implementation of the agreed brief, and full development of the online resource.

The website features translations into the main European languages, and is hosted and supported by Solstice servers.


Hospitable Climates

Developed in conjunction with the Institute for Hospitality, The Hospitable Climates online resource consists of a public website itself a comprehensive online resource of advice, fact files, publication listings and an energy analysis tool designed to allow users, typically hotel owners and managers, to enter details for their hotel sufficient to build an energy profile equivalent to EARM level 1.

Presented in personalised accounts, users are free to login, update, add to and generate reports on their data. Advice and guidance is dynamically generated, selected using a specially designed logic tree to ensure that information given is specifically relevant to the users building profile.


Energy Training Pack
Developed on behalf of the Institute of Hospitality and Carbon Trust, the energy training pack is an innovative multi-media interactive teaching resource designed to provide basic energy awareness training to those entering the Hospitality industry. The solution includes streaming media video tutorials and animated question and answer exercises.

Clear Skies
A major government grants initiative to provide renewable energy installations for individual households or community projects. Designed from the outset to be web-based, Solstice developed a comprehensive solution proving public online portal and secure administrative resource that enabled the efficient management and operation of the programme by the BRE team throughout the life of the initiative.

Good Energy Advice Program

A government sponsored initiative, developed so that consumers can be assured of accurate and relevant energy efficiency advice and information. Specifically, the Domestic Energy Efficiency Advice Code of Practice provides a Good Practice standard for the whole of the energy efficiency advice industry.

From the outset it was intended that the programme would be based around an online resource, supporting all the needs of both public users and industry practitioners.

Solstice created the resource, which went live in September 2003 on behalf of BRE and EST. The resource in now managed by EST and hosted and supported by Solstice.


Higher Education Benchmarking Tool

A innovative system providing users with an intuitive interface, and personalised home pages; from which energy and space type data can be selected and an educational site of multiple buildings can be defined, stored, maintained and reported upon at both Site and building level.

A innovative approach to corporate and individual carbon offsetting markets, Solstice was commissioned to provide web design and templates.

Office Scorer
Developed on behalf of BRE and the department of Trade and Industry, Office Scorer was designed to allow users to define their office building and generate comparative reports on whole life costing and environmental impact of refurbishment and redevelopment options.

Industrial Tool
Developed under Action Energy the system was designed to enable industrial buildings to be benchmarked on energy performance. The tool includes space type, process and lighting calculations and reports. The calculation engine also includes sophisticated routines to allow for variations in ambient temperature derived from degree days and the separation of process energy and thermal gains from space heating.

BREPFI
BREPFI
Solstice were commissioned to create a high profile online resource for the Building Research Establishment's public finance initiative unit. The unit required a means to disseminate and promote their previous work through online case studies and a portal through which to engage both new and existing clients.

Housing Quality Indicators National Scores Databas
Developed on behalf of the Housing Corporation, working with BRE, Solstice designed and implemented a web-based system for the automated collection, processing and reporting on (including comparative and benchmark reporting) Housing Quality Indicator data. Data was collected using Excel Spreadsheet based survey forms and uploaded to the system where it was verified, processed and then saved in the National Scores Database; from where the system generated a sophisticated range of reports.

The Whole Life Cost Forum is an industry focus group created to promote the inclusion of whole life costing within construction. As part of this, the development of an easy to use online tool was a principle aim. Solstice was commissioned to develop a system that provides users with an intuitive interface, and personalised elemental lists. Quotation request emails are then raised by the system and sent to suppliers allowing users to view comparative costing reports and create an optimally priced building solution.

A web-based evaluation portal providing information and guidance on sustainability programmes, initiatives and services allowing user to browse and actively compare material based on their selected and prioritised criteria. The system was developed under a collaborative industry project part-funded by the UK Government the DTi Partners in Innovation programme.

A robust windows forms application developed on behalf of EST to support the collection of data relating to installation of energy improvement measures in the UK building stock.

VAQAS, launched nationally by Visit Britain in 2001, is a consumer focused quality assessment of visitor attractions scheme for the UK. The VAQUAS website supports the programme and included communication and content management facilities for the programme team.

Solstice was commissioned to develop to develop an online pledge system to promote energy efficiency among the fans and supporters of Ipswich Town Football Club. The resource was developed to provide an engaging and easy-to-use mechanism for users to make a pledge to undertake carbon saving actions and activities.

As part of the Digital UK's Switch to Digital campaign, Solstice were asked to develop a website to allow members of the public to search for their nearest supplier of Digital Television.

Following a nationwide television and media campaign, the website has proved popular with members of the public wishing to learn more about the Digital Switchover.


The Green Room Online Resource
The Green Room is a sophisticated online resource currently being developed and tested ready for launch in early 2009. The Green Room purpose is to provide structured information (documents, links, news, items, reviews, best practice summaries) relating to sustainability in the hospitality sector. This achieved through a comprehensive knowledge management and profiling resource developed by Solstice whereby administrators can add information and classify it against key indexes ready for targeted dissemination to users via an automated profile matching and feedback system.

A review and booking system designed by Solstice with comprehensive content and communication management and integrated e-commerce facilities
